Tulum Travel Journal: Day Three
Day 3 - Dec 26 - Scuba One
Our first day of scuba diving! We woke up early and met our instructor at the Infinity2Diving dive shop in Pueblo. He was from the Tabasco region of Mexico. He took us out to Casa Cenote, an open cenote near the beach where Drew and I did some skills like clearing water from our masks and buoyancy control. We dove all the way to the back of the cenote where we popped up to the surface and met with a crocodile face to face, a few feet away! We got to dive through a slot canyon on our way back too. Drew’s confined sessions here were a lot cooler than the ones I did back in the pool at the Norwalk YMCA!
Our instructor brought homemade tamales for lunch which were possibly the best meal we had on the whole trip! That afternoon, Drew did the rest of his confined sessions while I lounged on the beach near the cenote and watched storms roll in from the sea. Luckily the storms all went south of us!
After our first day of diving was over, we were starving. We ended up eating an early dinner at Charly’s, a colorful Mexican spot in Pueblo with good tacos. Scott and Maggie joined us for dinner, then we walked along the street poking around in the shops a bit. We went to Batey Mojito Bar which had a blue vw bug that had a wheel operating a sugar cane press, which the waiters were turning the entire time we were there!
